Ampotech Highlighted as Local Property and Energy Technology Innovator
15/02/2019Energy Technology Innovation Takes Center Stage at Singapore’s BEAMP Launch
Energy technology innovation was spotlighted in Singapore as local Internet of Things startup Ampotech was selected to showcase its smart building solutions at the launch of the Built Environment Accelerate to Market Programme (BEAMP). The event highlighted Singapore’s growing commitment to advancing homegrown energy technology and accelerating innovation within the built environment sector.
BEAMP is an initiative led by the Building and Construction Authority (BCA) of Singapore, with support from Enterprise Singapore and JTC Corporation. The programme is designed to foster a strong ecosystem of innovators, solution providers, and industry partners who can collaboratively address key challenges facing the built environment. By connecting problem owners with technology developers, BEAMP aims to shorten the path from innovation to real-world deployment.
At the launch event, Ampotech was one of several companies selected to demonstrate how locally developed energy technology solutions can contribute to smarter, more efficient buildings. The programme identified 16 industry problem statements, submitted by major stakeholders including Surbana Jurong, JTC Corporation, and SoilBuild. These challenges span areas such as energy efficiency, asset management, building operations, and sustainability—domains where energy technology plays an increasingly critical role.
Accelerating Energy Technology for the Built Environment
As buildings account for a significant share of global energy consumption, the role of advanced energy technology in improving efficiency and reducing waste has become more important than ever. BEAMP addresses this need by encouraging the development and adoption of solutions that enable better monitoring, data-driven decision-making, and proactive building management.
Ampotech’s selection reflects its focus on delivering practical, scalable energy technology for real-world applications. The company develops smart metering and power monitoring systems that provide detailed visibility into how energy is consumed within buildings. By capturing granular electricity usage data, Ampotech’s technology enables building owners and facility managers to move beyond aggregated utility bills and gain insights at the level of individual spaces and equipment.
This approach aligns closely with BEAMP’s objective of transforming the built environment through technology that is both innovative and deployable at scale.

Minister Lawrence Wong Highlights Energy Technology Innovation
The launch event was officiated by Minister for National Development and Second Minister for Finance Lawrence Wong, who emphasized the importance of BuildTech and energy technology innovation in supporting Singapore’s long-term sustainability goals.
In his speech, Minister Wong specifically highlighted Ampotech as an example of a local energy technology company delivering meaningful impact:
“Another local energy tech company Ampotech has built a smart metering system that provides detailed energy consumption patterns of buildings. This allows building managers to detect areas with abnormal energy consumption patterns, and areas with high energy consumption. With the information collected, building managers can take a more targeted approach towards maintenance, and implement more energy efficient solutions.”
The Minister’s remarks underscored how energy technology can enable more precise and effective building operations. Rather than relying on reactive maintenance or broad efficiency measures, building managers can use detailed energy data to identify inefficiencies early, prioritize interventions, and implement targeted improvements.
Minister Wong further emphasized the government’s commitment to encouraging innovation in this space, stating:
“We do want to encourage more of such BuildTech innovations.”
Building a Strong Energy Technology Ecosystem
BEAMP represents a broader effort by Singapore to position itself as a hub for advanced energy technology and built environment innovation. By bringing together government agencies, developers, engineering firms, and technology startups, the programme helps reduce barriers to adoption and supports the commercialization of promising solutions.
For energy technology companies like Ampotech, participation in BEAMP provides opportunities to validate solutions against real industry needs, collaborate with major asset owners, and accelerate deployment across commercial and industrial buildings. For the built environment sector, it offers access to proven technologies that can improve energy efficiency, operational resilience, and long-term asset performance.
As sustainability, carbon reduction, and operational efficiency become central priorities for cities and businesses, energy technology will continue to play a defining role in shaping the future of buildings. Initiatives such as BEAMP demonstrate how public-private collaboration can help translate innovation into tangible outcomes—supporting both economic growth and environmental responsibility.
Through programmes like BEAMP and the recognition of local innovators, Singapore is reinforcing its commitment to advancing energy technology as a cornerstone of a smarter, more sustainable built environment.
