Ampotech Strengthens Cybersecurity via Infineon Partnership

19/10/2018

Cybersecurity is rapidly becoming the defining foundation of the digital energy era, where billions of connected devices, sensors, and platforms exchange critical data every second. As industries embrace IoT, cloud, and AI to improve efficiency and sustainability, the question is no longer whether systems are smart—but whether they are secure. In this context, the collaboration between Infineon Technologies and Ampotech marks a significant milestone, bringing together global semiconductor expertise and real-world IoT energy applications to enhance cybersecurity for connected systems.

Infineon Technologies is one of the world’s leading semiconductor companies, with a strong legacy in power systems, automotive solutions, and security technologies. Headquartered in Germany and operating globally, Infineon plays a pivotal role in enabling secure, energy-efficient, and intelligent electronics that power modern life. From microcontrollers and power semiconductors to hardware-based security solutions, Infineon’s technologies are embedded in countless devices worldwide. Recognizing the growing need to accelerate innovation in collaboration with startups, Infineon launched its first global Co-Innovation Space at its Asia-Pacific headquarters in Singapore—an initiative designed to turn ideas into viable, commercial-ready solutions more quickly.

This 250-square-meter Co-Innovation Space is the first of its kind for Infineon globally. Built as a collaborative environment, it allows selected startups to work closely with Infineon’s experts across technology, product development, and business strategy. Participants gain access to training in design thinking and business innovation, hands-on support from R&D specialists, exposure to manufacturing capabilities, and direct connections to Infineon’s extensive network of partners and customers across Asia Pacific and beyond. The goal is clear: shorten development cycles and bring impactful, secure technologies to market more quickly.

“Working closely together with the start-ups gives us the opportunities to exchange knowledge while providing them with access to technologies, network of partners and customers around the world. Through the Infineon Co-Innovation Space, we look forward to new products that will impact the world and make life easier, safer, and greener for society,” said Chua Chee Seong, President and Managing Director of Infineon Asia Pacific.

Cybersecurity Collaboration at the Core of IoT Innovation

Among the four startups selected for the inaugural year-long program is Ampotech, a Singapore-based Internet of Things company specializing in energy data collection, monitoring, and analytics for buildings and infrastructure. Ampotech’s solutions help organizations understand how electricity is consumed, identify inefficiencies, and optimize energy usage using connected devices and digital platforms. As energy systems become increasingly digital, Ampotech recognizes that cybersecurity must be embedded at every layer—from hardware to software to data flows.

At the heart of the Infineon and Ampotech collaboration is a shared focus on cybersecurity for IoT systems. Connected energy devices often operate in distributed environments such as commercial buildings, factories, and infrastructure sites, making them attractive targets for cyber threats if not properly secured. Through the Co-Innovation Space, Ampotech and Infineon are working together to develop and prototype semiconductor-based solutions that strengthen device identity, data integrity, and system-level protection.

Ampotech Co-Founder William Temple said: “We believe in being proactive about security, and this partnership with Infineon allows our team to work with some of the top hardware security professionals in the region while benefitting from Infineon’s global customer and partner network.”

Over the one-year collaboration, the two companies are expected to develop new products and services that combine Ampotech’s experience in energy data and IoT platforms with Infineon’s strength in secure hardware and semiconductor innovation. This includes exploring how secure elements, authentication mechanisms, and hardware-based protections can be integrated into energy monitoring devices deployed at scale.

The launch of the Co-Innovation Space took place during the inaugural Infineon OktoberTech Asia event, signaling the company’s long-term commitment to open innovation in the region. Singapore’s position as a technology and innovation hub makes it an ideal location for such collaboration, especially as Southeast Asia continues to digitize its energy and infrastructure systems.

Beyond individual products, this collaboration highlights a broader shift in how cybersecurity is approached in IoT ecosystems. As energy management platforms expand across borders and sectors, trust, reliability, and resilience become critical success factors. Secure-by-design principles help ensure that data remains protected, systems remain operational, and businesses can scale digital solutions with confidence.

Ultimately, the Infineon–Ampotech partnership demonstrates how global technology leaders and agile startups can work together to address complex challenges. By combining semiconductor innovation with real-world IoT applications, the collaboration aims to deliver practical cybersecurity solutions that support safer, smarter, and more sustainable energy systems.

As digital transformation accelerates across buildings, industries, and cities, cybersecurity will continue to be a cornerstone of progress. Through initiatives like the Infineon Co-Innovation Space, and partnerships with companies like Ampotech, the future of connected energy is not only intelligent and efficient—but secure by design.
